I get the error: "Subscript 1 of PATTFRACTION (value 1) is out of range (1:0)" with
rmfgen
A problem has been found with
rmfgen
when run on EPIC-pn spectra
extracted from a spatial region which includes several different CCDs.
The code attempts to calculate the centre of the spatial region and
occasionally
exits with an error message about PATTFRACTION subscripts.
If you encounter this problem the solution is to use the appropriate
canned matrix
from the SOC web-site:
ftp://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/pub/ccf/constituents/extras/responses/pn/
To find the correct canned matrix to use for a given spectrum, it is
necessary
to first look at an image and roughly calculate the mean RAW-Y position
of the events in the spectrum. Using this, the observing mode and the
selected
event pattern range, the relevant redistribution matrix can be found.
Instructions are given on the
EPIC response web pages
Pages maintained by SAS librarian.
Any question about SAS should be addressed to the
XMM-Newton help desk.
