Subject: Special session on ASTRO-H: announcement for XMM-Newton newsletter
Dear XMM Helpdesk:
We would be most grateful if you could include the following
announcement in the next XMM-Newton newsletter, hopefully to be sent
soon (the deadline for the special session is March 30).
Best regards
Marc Audard

Dear colleagues:
A one-day Special Session SpS8 will be devoted to the Japanese ASTRO-H
mission at the next European Week of Astronomy and Space Science in
Rome. ASTRO-H will be launched in 2014 and will carry several
revolutionary instruments, like a focusing-optics hard X-ray imager and
the first calorimeter on an X-ray satellite. Several European countries
and ESA are participating in the ASTRO-H mission, providing a wonderful
opportunity for European astronomers.
The special session on July 3rd, 2012 will have the goal of promoting
the mission in the European community and to start preparing European
astronomers for the successful use of ASTRO-H. The meeting will
introduce the different elements of the ASTRO-H mission and instruments,
and then focus on the major scientific advances that are expected from
the ASTRO-H mission, in particular (but not limited to):
Galaxy clusters
Active galactic nuclei
X-ray binaries
Supernova remnants
Young stars
We invite the community to submit abstracts for contributed talks and
posters until March 30, 2012 on the following web page:
